That Night I Was Thinking of You

Stuff:  I wrote this about 5 or so years ago but I still like it.  It’s on my Erim site which I haven’t updated in awhile ^^;.  This ficlet was written after the scene in the tower (which I cannot recall at this time…) when Iris teleports Maxim to the safety of Parcelyte.

The entire city of Parcelyte was rejoicing in the marriage of Selan and Maxim. Everywhere in the city there was happiness–except for in her heart. Iris sat down and leaned up against a smooth rock nearby the exit of the city. She didn’t understand herself why all of a sudden she felt uneasy and hurt. "What's wrong with me? What is this feeling?" Iris smoothed the wrinkles out of her skirt and stared at her hands. They were shaking slightly and sweating.

 

A couple walked on by talking excessively. Iris couldn’t help but overhear. . . “It was a wonderful wedding. Selan looked so beautiful. . .”

 

Iris clenched her fists and crinkled her face. “Selan” She swung her fist into the open air and closed her eyes.

 

“. . . .”

 

“. . .Maxim. . .”

 

Iris still sat unaware that it was becoming dark. She debated with herself whether or not to go to congratulate him anyway. She eventually turned against the thought and continued to sit. A single tear shed from her face and she jumped in shock. “It’s water. . .am I crying? That’s silly. I have nothing to cry about. . .n-nothing at all. .

Life is a pathway we all must travel,
Yet the way becomes easier and more special when it’s
shared with others.
That night, I was thinking of you.
Life suddenly has meaning when you have someone to protect,
Yet that meaning increases when the love is felt back.
That night, I was thinking of you.
